Stone Type / Granite

Granite is a course-grained, plutonic, igneous rock comprised mainly of quartz, feldspar and mica.

It is created when molten magma is cooled very slowly, deep beneath the earth's crust. The rate of cooling, depth at which it was created as well as the composition of the mineral content, determines the size, colour and density of the crystals and results in the wide range of colours and crystal sizes seen in different granite rocks.

The nature of these crystals is also what makes granite so hard and resistant to chemical erosion and staining. This makes it highly suitable for a variety of indoor and outdoor uses, and is particularly favoured for use in kitchens and other high use areas.

Granite is available in a huge range of colours from red, pink and gold through blue, green, black, white and combinations of them all.

The hardness of granite makes it suitable for a wide range of finishes, from the smooth highly polished finish preferred for kitchen benchtops and indoor tiles, through to slip-resistant, flamed, honed and sandblasted finishes suitable for outdoor areas, and picked or bush- hammered finishes for a decorative and eyecatching effect.

Available Dimensions:

The most common sizes for granite tiles and pavers are 300mm x 300mm and 600mm x 600mm with thickness varying according to size and the desired finish.

However any size and finish can be accomodated for upto 1000mmX1000mm for a really striking result.

Cut-to-measure slabs and benchtops for kitchens and bathrooms are also available in sizes and shapes to suit your project.
